Starting a New Page

Hello Everyone! Here you can learn about starting a new page!

  • Click on the link to the left, that says "New Page." You will see the following screen:

  • Enter the name of your new page. If your name is John Smith, for example, you might want to name your page "John Smith"
  • If you like, you can choose a template to work with. A template is a basic framework for a page, where headings have already been created for you. Where it says "Choose a page template to start with," just click the little arrow, and you'll have a few options:
    • You could choose to create a Member Page. This template gives you the basics to describe yourself to all of your partners. The framework looks like this:

    • You can add to the framework - by adding pictures, different headings, or even videos! Just make sure to follow the rules for contributing to the wiki!
    • If you are creating a Recipe page for your Food Heritage site, you can choose the Recipe Page template. That template looks like this:
      Recipe_Page.png
    • Again, you can add different headings and pictures and any text to this template. It just gives you something to start with!
    • Your organizers will create new templates as our projects progress. Leave us a message in the discussion section of this page, or any other page, if you would like to see a particular type of template!
>>
* If you have decided to use a template, choose that template from the drop-down menu. Otherwise, choose "start with a blank page."
  • Hit "Create"
  • All done!

Linking Pages

Linking to your newly created page from a main page is also easy!
  • First, type the text for your link. For example, if I wanted to link to my personal page, I could type "find out more about me here."
>
* If I wanted the word "here" to link to my personal page, I would highlight just that word.
  • I would then click on the icon at the top of the page that looks like the Earth:Earth_Icon.png
  • This screen will come up:
    Creating_a_Link.png

  • Where it says "Link Text," it should be the word that you highlighted. As you can see, I highlighted a little extra by accident. I can erase the period and quotation marks in this field.
  • If you are linking to your own personal page, and you have already created that page, under the "wiki link" section, and in the "page name" field, you will be able to choose your page from the scroll down list.
  • If you have not yet created your page, you can choose New Page, as it shows above. Then follow the instructions above for creating a new page!
  • All done!
