Our Future: Education and the Environment

Education is a fundamental human right, and is protected as a right for all people by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The right to education for children is specifically protected, moreover, in the Convention of the Rights of the Child (Article 28). But education isn’t just important because we all have the right to learn – it affects our future, and our ability to live our lives to the fullest. For example, if we do not have appropriate education, the quality of our future environment would be very much affected.

How does education help you in understanding and helping the environment?

How would the environment be different if you did not have education?

What is one particular environmental issue that you will likely face, for which education might be important (for example,
recycling, global warming, clean water)? How will education help you deal with this issue?

Write a paragraph explaining why education is important to the future of the environment. Research and find three quotes, statistics or facts to support your opinion, and use this information in your paragraph. Make sure you reference the sources of this information appropriately!
