When the whole family is gathering at the table the oldest member of the family begins reception of the food and then the others.
After the reception of the food the oldest member of the family says the praying “Omin” and only then the family members can leave the table.

Food in National Life

National Celebrations
As you know each nation usually has its own celebrations and traditions, and often different foods play important roles in them. We have such holidays too.

Those holidays are: Navruz, Idi Ramazon, Idi Kurbon. In those holidays there are particulary important foods such as: Sumalak and Oshi Palov . Because this foods are prepared almost on those holidays. On Navruz we cook Sumalak because it is a symbol of the beginning of spring. We celebrate it from the 21 till 23 of March and usually all people have a rest on these dayws. Idi Ramazon and Idi Qurbon are religious holidays . In Idi kurbon people usually sacrifice/kill sheep, hens and give the meat to poor people.
In our group almost all members can prepare national foods. Usually their parents teach to cook foods.
We think that these holidays would be not so important and interesting without national foods. And people would feel themselves not so good. Without these foods people would not have a time to be together with their family and have talking to each other, because we think that need in food not for be ever full but to have a talking with our family and friends.

National Foods and Their Significance

Also on the eve of these holidays we have tradition on which people give our national food - Oshi Palov to their naughbours and friends like exchange. If a neighborur had quarrel on this by giving Oshi Palov they become friends again and forget about past quarrel and never quarrel again. Also we call Becoming a friend after quarrel or war as Osh-Dihi which means Giving Oshi Palov.
