Dear UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-Moon

We the students from Chkalovsk ILC, Tajikistan are sending you a letter regarding our education. We – the youth of our country must improve our education to improve the quality of our lives. We want to insure you how education is important for our developing country. We want to see our life and a life of our children healthy and blooming. We live in Tajikistan, and our youth are very ambitious to study. The right for education is protected by the law of Republic of Tajikistan ( 28th article). In 1996 the government had signed the agreement in education between Turkey, CPDR, USA (FLEХ, IREX). Our talented students are studying in Turkey, China, USA, Germany, Slovakia, Czech etc. So, in China there are studying 20 students, in Turkey more then 300 students, in Germany – 150, in USA – 158, in Russia-107. Education is important for our future health
We want to rise as a strong nation. We want to be healthier. We should know the ways of transmission of various infections, to avoid diseases. Thanks to Local NGO’s like “DINA”, “PSI”, “SAFO”, “SAODAT”, “Chaika”, etc. we get the knowledge about the HIV/AIDS, how to protect ourselves from this global problems. We’ve learned some information how to avoid acute viral hepatitis, flu, herpes, scab, etc.
Women in some parts of our country couldn’t get the appropriate education due to their family conditions, but more often due to their family tradition. The lack of education of girls brought to murder of their children. Some mothers don’t know that preventive inoculation protects many diseases. To adhere hygiene is also very important to keep our health.
Education is important for the future of the environment
People have always polluted their surroundings. But until now pollution was not such a serious problem. People lived in uncrowned rural areas and did not have pollution-causing machines. With the development of crowded industrial cities which put huge amounts of pollutants into small areas, the problem has become more important. A level of emissions of harmful substances in atmosphere from stationary sources of emission; in Tajikistan 2005 is 68.8 thous.tons. Tajikistan is less developed country in the world. The Earth’s climate system has demonstrably changed on both global and regional scales since the pre-industrial era, with some of these changes attributable to human activities.
Pollution is as complicated as serious problem. Automobiles are polluting the air but they provide transportation for the people. Factories pollute the air and the water but they provide jobs for people and produce necessary goods. Fertilizers and pesticides are important for growing crops but they can ruin soil.
Thus, people would have to stop using many useful things if they wanted to end pollution immediately. Most people do not want that of course. But pollution can be reduced gradually. Scientists and engineers can find the ways to reduce pollution from automobiles and factories. Government can pass the laws that would make enterprises take measures for reducing of pollution. Individuals and groups of people can work together to persuade enterprises to stop polluting activities. All this groups of people are we, the youth of the country and the whole world. Every problem could be solved by us. Well educated people will care after the surrounded environment. We want to change our life, and we need better education, to prevent our Earth from dying.
Education is important for our future ability to participate in politics
Thanks to IFES, we had learned a lot about participating in politics, in voting. But not all of schools have such programs. Not all people know that the vote of each of us could effect in elections of our president and our governors. We could make any changes in our lives and in the Law, knowing our rights and obligations.
Education is important for our future economic security. We need for basic economic knowledge to maintain our future life. Arithmetic will help us to count our finances, incomes and outcomes. Fancy-work and hobby probably will be somebody’s professional job in the future. Just filling an application for job needs some education, repairing cars, kneeting, sewing, dancing or any other types of job we choose in the future will need appropriate knowledge and education. The education we get now will affect to our future money spend.
We are happy that we have such education programs as RI-SOL, Junior Achievement (economic education), IFES and some others, who help us to get information and knowledge for our future. Knowing the basis of economics we could buy qualitative products for our family. We know that before buying a product one should look at its serviceable life, at it’s producer, it’s utility. Choosing products knowing how, we could keep our money and our family’s health.
Mr. UN Secretary General. Education is very important to the future of our nation and generation. The atmospheric concentrations of key anthropogenic greenhouse gases (i.e. carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and tropospheric ozone (O3) reached their highest recorded levels in the 1990s, primarily due to the combustion of fossil fuels, agriculture, and land use changes. Intergovernmental bodies had counted that in 2100 the world temperature will rise up to 3.7 C. This is the serious problem of last1000 years
Total number of incomplete secondary school graduates in Tajikistan is 149.8 from 1682.2 total number of students.
These entire problems are waiting for solving them. And are education is very important to make our life safe, rich, health and clean.

Sincerely Chkalovsk ILC project group students:
